Selling Candles

I work with a guy who came around the other day, and asked me if i wanted to buy a bear. "What are you talking about?" I replied, "a Teddy Bear?" "Yes, but its been dipped." "Whats a dipped bear?" I said. I had no idea what he was talking about! He then explained about dipping bears which I will discuss in a later post.

"Why not sell candles?" I asked him. "Why go through the trouble of dipping bears when candles would seem to be a quicker and easier way to make money." "Because B. has been selling candles here in the factory for a while, and I don't want to undercut her. Besides, the bears are my own product that I make from scratch."

"Are candles really that big a seller?" I asked dumbfounded. "Yes," he answered. "B. is selling about a thousand dollars a month." "In candles!" I asked shocked! "Her high month was over 2000 dollars." He said. "To people here in the factory." "I can't believe those numbers." I said. He answered, "Women are big candle buyers, and B. has a pretty good business selling them to the ladies here."

He then stated that that was gross sales, and he didn't know what her commission was. But still, she was doing a thriving side business.

There are about 100-150 people in my factory department. I had never noticed B. before, but I started paying attention to her. Whenever she wandered over to my machine. She always had samples, and new fragrances. She would pause and talk about candles, and the new scents she had. Laughing and telling jokes, the ladies (and guys) would buy. She was low key in her sales pitch, not pushy. Happy to show candle samples. I could tell she was selling something she loved. and was making money doing it.

Have you ever noticed, in almost every store you go in, there is a section dealing with candles? I always figured with the market saturated, a individual doesn't have a chance. I guess B. proved me wrong. If you love what you're doing, it will show. And you will make sales. And a part-time income.....

Do something....Anything!.

There are a thousand an one different ways to make money on the Internet. But you can't just think about it.     There is a saying: the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Don't try to do everything at once. Break jobs down into baby steps, doing them piece by piece. You won't make a million dollars over night. But you won't make anything if you don't start.

There is the story of 2 guys in front of a row of cars. whoever could push a car across the finish line would win. One guy started pushing one car, unable to move it, he moved on to another. Unable to move the next car, he went on to the third, and then the fourth. He worked his way down the line, trying each car for a short time. Giving up on each, he went to the next. Meanwhile, the second guy started with one car and stayed with it. He kept pushing and pushing. Sticking with one car he slowly moved the car down the course and across the finish line. Winning the contest. The Moral? Find something and stick with it.
Don't jump from the latest fad to the latest fad.
Be a tortoise.   Slow and steady will win the race....

Job scams

If you've found this blog, its probably because your looking for a part-time job, or looking for information about a certain job. Check back often. I have checked into a lot of different part-time opportunities, jobs, and businesses you can run yourself part-time. If you're looking, there are a lot of job boards, and classified sites with help wanted ads on them. Start with Google.

When I ever find a interesting job, the first thing I do is Google the business. Are there any negative posts on Google? Checkout the positive posts too. If I find even one negative post on Google, I steer away from the opportunity.
I sometimes check with the Better Business Bureau for comments. Find the nearest metro area. Google the city+BBB. Does the BBB list a address, or a phone number of the business? Any comments at all? No listing isn't necessarily a bad thing. Do more digging.

Find a forum. Google (opportunity)+ forum. what do the posts say?

The one thing to ALWAYS remember: NEVER PAY FOR A JOB OR PAY A JOB SITE! Legitimate businesses will never ask you to pay for working for them. Do your homework before signing up.   A little research will go a long way toward saving you headaches later, and keep you from getting scammed.

I believe that before you pay for anything over the internet, with a little research, you can probably find the same information somewhere else for free.

I am signed up for Google Alerts. I receive daily emails from Google about writing jobs. Type in the word you want Google to send you information on, and you will receive daily emails from them. be specific with your wording. You'll be surprised.
